Navigating a Health and Wellness Path

Published on 4 November 2023 at 12:08

Nutrition and fitness aren't something that has to be suffered through- we can learn skills to integrate them into our lives and - dare I say - even enjoy it! Health and wellness has played such a huge role throughout my life. From staying in shape to work a physically demanding job as a firefighter, to navigating an autoimmune disease diagnoses. Fitness has kept me strong physically, lifted my spirits when I was feeling overwhelmed, improved my sleep, and empowered me to take control of my own health. In todays fast paced social media driven society, so many different approaches are at our finger tips. If we followed fitness influencers and celebrity fad diets... the perfect plan for getting in shape may look something like:

- Eat chicken and broccoli every day

- Workout for an hour or more most days

- Stop snacking! No dessert!

-Drink 8 glasses of water

- Get those steps- 10,000 steps a day!

- Get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep everyday

- Maybe Keto? No, Vegan! Wait, Intermittent Fasting!

Those ideas may sound good in theory, but the reality is: that plan is NOT practical for most of us to follow on a consistent bases. Most of us need plans that consider our unique situations.

- A hip or knee injury that limits range of motion, or ability to complete certain movements such as squats and lunges.

- Gym anxiety or the confidence that your doing the exercises safely.

- A compromised immune system due to treatments and medications causing the gym environment to be unsafe.

- A full time job that requires you to work 8-12 hour shifts.

- A family that you want to have more energy for; not less.

Apps and cookie cutter programs do not recognize your unique circumstances and this can make achieving goals and sticking with a program challenging. With a new medical diagnoses or during periods of healing and recovery we can not afford to not take action. Using my background as a personal trainer, and my clinical experience and knowledge as a registered nurse, I want to help navigate this path!

I am currently working on developing both online and in person 1:1 training packages! While other programs may only look at one aspect of health, like fitness, I pride myself on a more holistic approach that blends together the nursing process, movement, nutrition, AND mindset changes!

If you can, please leave a comment below and share me your personal thoughts about aspects of training programs that have either worked for you, or haven't worked for you in the past. Are there certain aspects to a wellness package that are appealing to you as a potential client?

Thank you for taking the time to read today's blog!

Enjoy a safe weekend!

Much love,

They are usually too rigid and don’t take my situation into consideration.
