Things have been busy here in the Lion's Den! I am thankful to announce that I am in my final week of Wellness Coach Certification and will be sitting for my final exam shorty after Thanksgiving! I believe Wellness is multidimensional: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Emotional, Social, and Environmental. I am devoted to helping my clients reach their highest potential for health. Acting as a guide and encourager as we work towards common goals with changed mindsets and behaviors. It is a privilege to walk beside people on their journey to wellness. After facing disease and illness I will help you take your power back. This feeling...it's hard to describe but its undeniable when you feel it. A combination of grit and determination, and hellbent celebration for this gift of life.
Physical activity is intrinsic to wellness. As advocated by medical professionals around the world, a regular and adequate level of physical activity is vital to our health and well being in all aspects. Physiologically, physical activity can lower the risk of many chronic diseases ( hypertension, coronary heart disease. stroke, diabetes, and various types of cancer); improve cardio respiratory fitness and bone health; manage weight; improve sleep and energy; and maintain balance, agility, and mobility as we age.
The mental benefits of physical activity are also well- researched. Helping us to relax and de-stress, bring a sense of joy and fulfillment, improve our mental resilience, and prevent cognitive decline. Where and how we exercise can produce additional rewards as well. For example, when we play sports or attend group classes we build vital social connections. Likewise, when we exercise outdoors, we get the added mental and emotional benefits of being in nature! As many of you know trail running is most definitely my own reset!
To receive these benefits, our engagement in physical activity needs to be regular, consistent, and sustained. According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans "physical activity is anything that gets your body moving!" They recommend getting a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate- intensity physical activity a week. I know that 150 minutes each week sounds like a lot, but you don't have to complete this all at once. Break it down- it could be 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week!
The main goal is to get your body moving! Walk. Run. Dance. Play. What's your move?
