Congratulations for completing Week 2!
During Week 2 of our Mindfulness Challenge we explored Mindful Breathwork. Breathwork is an incredible practice that can quickly soothe the nervous system and restore us to the parasympathetic state, instilling a sense of calm and as we have discovered this week Breathwork has many benefits for our body as a whole.
Throughout the week, we learned two beginner breathwork techniques - box breathing and the 4-7-8 methods. What were your personal experiences with incorporating these into your daily Mindful practice? I personally started doing breathwork about a year a ago and absolutely love it. I use it regularly alongside my other spiritual and mental health practices. I also have found that concentrating on my breath even for just a few short rounds has helped me as a bedside nurse. I am able to re-center, re-focus, and re-charge in stressful situations and spread that calming energy to my patients and co-workers in the room.
There are many different types of breathwork, if you practice yoga you will be familiar with some of the Pranayamas to dive into. Some practices, such as Holotropic, Rebirthing, Shamanic, and Transformational, are usually done in a guided setting by an experiences practitioner to facilitate the experiences. Others, such as Wim Hof's, have their own app you can follow along with. I experienced my first guided breathwork session a few weeks ago. It was an amazing experience and if you enjoyed doing these beginner breathwork techniques I would highly recommended branching out and trying a guided session!
As we close off this weeks challenge. take some time today to reflect on the Mindful Practice of Breathwork. What were your personal thoughts, experiences?
Thank you for joining me this week! See you next week as we start Week 3!
Much love,
Katie
Declaimer: Breathwork is a safe healing modality as you are in control and can stop at any time, however, extra care should be taken if you suffer from any health conditions and it is always best to speak to your health practitioner before starting.
